Some women may experience cravings early in pregnancy. This condition makes pregnant women want to eat whatever food is crossing their minds.
Some pregnant women crave sweets, while others prefer salty or spicy foods. There are even some who become fond of sour fruit, whereas previously they did not like it or were not accustomed to consuming it. Each pregnant woman has her own experience when cravings.
Reasons for Pregnant Women Cravings
Actually there is no clear scientific reason why pregnant women experience cravings. There is a theory which says that this happens due to hormonal changes in the body of pregnant women, which makes the sense of smell and taste more sensitive. But, there is also a theory which states that the desire to consume something arises due to the body of pregnant women experiencing certain nutritional deficiencies. For example, pregnant women who crave meat, such as burgers, may be a sign that the body lacks protein, potassium, or sodium. So, it is not the food that is actually desired, but the nutrients contained in it. If a pregnant woman craves something that can harm herself and the fetus, such as crayons, talcum powder, or dirty objects, chances are it is a sign that her body is deficient in iron. But, so far no scientific facts have been found that can ascertain the phenomenon of cravings for certain. There is a myth that states that if pregnant women cravings are not fulfilled, then the Little will salivate constantly. But, that is just a myth.
